White Plains Housing Authority provides housing assistance to low income residents through the management of Low Rent Public Housing. This program is income based and the eligibility guidelines are set by HUD.There may be waiting lists for these rentals and at times the lists may close to new applicants based on the size of and length of wait on the lists. If you are in need of housing assistance in the area please contact the Housing Authority directly to obtain more information about eligibility requirements, availability of rentals, the status of any waiting lists and their application procedures.
Phase I of the redevelopment ended in 2016, with the opening of a $42 million, 10-story building called "The Prelude." The building has 103 affordable apartments. The White Plains Education and Training Center, which offers a variety of classes and vocational training for city residents, occupies the ground floor.
The Board of Commissioners and Management of the White Plains Housing Authority have a proud history of partnership with our residents, clergy, local community residents, businesses and government. The goal of WPHA which is supported by the Federal Quality Housing and Work Responsibility Act of 1998 is to allow for more economic integration and deconcentration in public housing; encourage and reward work; provide protection of those in need; and expand the number of units accessible to low income families in cooperation with new housing choice vouchers. Under my current administration,
